Alex and Jonathan first met on March 24, 2018 at the Sea Scout Northeast Region Bridge of Honor (NERBOH). Then, in 2019, both Alex and Jonathan joined the United States Coast Guard where they crossed paths at the recruiting office and then again during bootcamp. Starting in approximately February 2021, they had virtual movie nights.

On July 5, 2021, they met in-person for the first time since bootcamp at the Baltimore Inner Harbor where they went to the National Aquarium and the Chessecake Factory. On the evening of September 8, 2021, they decided to become an official couple. From then until January 2022, they continued doing virtual date nights and in-person visits around holiday times.

In January 2022, Alex reported to Training Center Yorktown, Virginia for a 3-month A-School. TRACEN Yorktown is located 30 minutes from Christopher Newport University, where Jonathan attended college, this allowed for them to spend time together in-person.

On May 21, 2023, Jonathan and Alex moved into their apartment in Rhode Island. They started building their life together. On October 22, 2023, Jonathan proposed to Alex at Castle Hill Lighthouse in Newport, RI. They are looking forward to starting the next chapter of their voyage.
